Ribbed Bathmat | Free Crochet Pattern

Image
A few years ago I made a bathmat with the Cloud 9 pattern I designed using a cotton/viscose yarn I bought from my local store, Big W here in Australia. The bathmat has been used a lot, and it has stood the wear and tear of any bathmat we have had. In the time I made the bathmat, 2 store bought bathmats have worn out, so to say handmade is best is true! Recently I was organising my yarn stash and found more of the same yarn. It is a 12ply/Chunky/#5 weight cotton/viscose blend, so the bathmat can withstand constant use, washing and it dries quick. The yarn is no longer in Big W stores, but any substitute would suffice.  Over the long weekend, I decided it was time to make another bathmat as 2 of the store bought bathmats have worn out. This is a very simple pattern, and can be made in 10ply/Aran/#4 weight or 12ply/Chunky/#5 weight.  The following pattern is written using 12ply/Chunky/#5 weight yarn. if you are using a lighter weight yarn, simply add to your starting chain until you reac

Diamond Jubilee Cowl | Free crochet pattern

Happy 60th birthday mum! This month, my mum turns 60 and to celebrate I am sharing a free crochet pattern with you, The Diamond Jubilee Cowl. Honestly my mum is my world. She is my best friend, pillar of strength and fills my heart full of love. She is everything I wish to be. Hardships can shape us, and it is no exception for my mu m. She was a single mother to 3 girls and is a survivor of DV. Growing up, I saw mum as a strong woman who was invincible, but as an adult I know she was just being strong for her girls, yet when alone would have crumbled. Her love was and is endless, no matter what. She i s always there for us and now her grandchildren. I have been fortunate to have a mother that always put her children first, and loved unconditionally even if it felt like she w as being too strict. It was how we were raised that has shaped us girls into loving, respectful and strong women. Thank you mum! About the pattern The Diamond Jubilee cowl is a simple pattern, great for beginners t

Grace Top - Yarnish Makes design Grace Top - Photo by Yarnish Back in August i was asked to design a top for Yarnish by Emma, head of the Yarnish makes design team. I was so excited and knew that i needed to design a summer top that was comfortable, stylish and plus sized friendly.  The design idea was to have a lacy yoke and solid body with basic shaping. I loved the look of the treble cross stitch, so i worked out how to make the stitch work for a raglan style garment

The Crochet Hook Up - Designing as a community

Image
A few days ago, i approached Emily from The Loopy Stitch * and asked her if she would like to use some of my already designed flowers for her 365 days of flowers. She almost jumped through my phone with excitement! Why did i offer some of my designs to Emily? It is because Emily has worked so hard over the past few months delivering a new flower design to the crochet community daily. Each day she has been designing, writing, editing and publishing these little flowers for 3mths! If you have designed or tested a crochet pattern, you will know just those 4 steps are very time consuming in itself, let alone doing it every single day. But last week Emily wrote a very raw honest post on  Instagram  .Emily was feeling the 'pressure' of delivering a flower each day and it was taking away her normal crochet time that she loves so much. The community sent an outpouring of love and understanding, and so we should, Emily has worked so hard! All Week i kept thinking about wha
